Skaters in Arlington now have a plethora of locales to perfect their 50-50 grinds and backside airs, with four free public skateparks open daily across the city. For those ready to drop in, each park offers its blend of urban terrain, catering to different styles and skill levels, according to the City of Arlington.
The expansive Vandergriff Skatepark, nestled at 2800 S. Center St., boasts a sizable 7,500 square feet of skateable surface. Under the cover of night or the blazing Texas sun, the rails, steps, pool, and a distinctly shaped orange peel section await riders from 5 a.m. to the stroke of midnight. Those who’ve skated here talk about the smooth lines and the rail that demands a skater's precision.
Not to be outshined, the Cody Rocamontes Memorial Skatepark at 1901 W. Randol Mill Rd. serves as a tribute to variety with a grind rail, dragon tail, and a manual pad. Spanning roughly 5,500 square feet, this park keeps its gates open to those looking to skate from early dawn until the late hours of the night, flanked by lights that keep the park aglow after sundown.
Meanwhile, the Webb Community Skatepark at 1100 Mansfield Webb Rd., although the youngest of the bunch without lighting fixtures, offers its charm within an expansive park setting. Over 4,000 square feet, with consideration for 2,000 more, provide skaters with an intimate experience, featuring a flat ledge and rooftop rail that challenge the gravity-bound.
