A tragic turn of events in Ashtabula County has led to the death of a 61-year-old woman, who perished after falling through ice while attempting to save her dog. According to WKYC, Carol Beebe of Pierpont Township was discovered by family members in a pond on her property after they had not heard from her since the previous Friday.
Having become concerned for her well-being, her family decided to visit her home in the 5000 block of Caine Road. It was there they found the dire scene. Surveillance footage later reviewed provided a harrowing account of the incident; Beebe's dog had fallen through the ice on the pond, and in efforts to rescue her pet, she too fell through the treacherously thin ice. These details come to light in statements obtained by both WKYC and Cleveland19.
The Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the death. In a statement to News 5 Cleveland, they confirmed the findings on the property's surveillance system. The county's sheriff, William Niemi, was noted as the source for confirming the sequence of events leading to Beebe's tragic accident.
