An Ashtabula woman, aged 52, was killed in a head-on collision with a garbage truck this morning in Saybrook Township. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred around 7:55 a.m. on State Route 45 near milepost 25. The authorities identified the deceased as Brenda Hawes, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox when the vehicle swerved into the opposing lane and collided with a green Peterbilt garbage truck, according to WKYC.
The garbage truck driver, 61-year-old Larry McGirr, reportedly did not suffer any injuries. Following the crash, State Route 45 was closed for an estimated two and a half hours while the scene was investigated, cleared, and reopened, per the reports from Cleveland19.
