Atlanta residents who've used the ParkMobile app for their parking needs may soon be eligible for a cash payout. The parking service app has agreed to settle at nearly $33 million following a class-action lawsuit spurred by a 2021 data breach. According to FOX5 Atlanta, this breach reportedly exposed customer data such as license plate numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses. Critics argued the company should have done more to protect this sensitive information.
The data breach, dating back to March 2021, was said to have been caused by vulnerabilities in third-party systems used by ParkMobile. The company has offered up to $25 to affected users who file a claim by March 5, 2025, as per 11Alive. A final approval meeting for the settlement is scheduled for March 13, 2025. Those who choose not to file a claim will automatically receive a $1 credit in the ParkMobile app.
Eligibility for the settlement includes anyone to whom ParkMobile sent a notice regarding the 2021 security breach. Moreover, class members should have recently received an email detailing the class action settlement. For those uncertain of their status in the class, the Settlement Administrator can be reached for confirmation at a toll-free number at 1-866-944-4062.
ParkMobile announced that settling the case allows them to focus on protecting customer information and improving their services. The company has denied previous claims that personal information, including names and credit card details, was compromised. They emphasized their ongoing efforts to strengthen security and monitoring according to industry best practices.
