As the festive season approaches, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is gearing up for a busy holiday travel period. With roughly 30,000 departing passengers expected each day on peak travel dates—December 20, 22, and 23—the airport has shared some tips to help passengers navigate the crowds and streamline their travel experience. According to a post on the city's official website, travelers should aim to arrive at the airport 2.5 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights.
To ease the journey to the airport, it's recommended to check traffic updates on DriveTexas.org and consider using the CapMetro Route 20 for a direct airport connection. Those checking luggage or traveling in large groups might need to allocate even more time. In efforts to keep security lines moving smoothly, the TSA advises that liquids and aerosols in carry-ons should not exceed 3.4 oz, and firearms are strictly prohibited in carry-on luggage, as detailed by the City of Austin. A free gift-wrapping station will be available up until December 25, to assist those who are transporting unwrapped gifts.
With the holiday season's emphasis on creating memories—not the stress of missing flights—AUS encourages travelers to plan thoroughly. "The holiday season is about making memories, not missing flights. Plan ahead, pack smart, and arrive with plenty of time to spare," shares the post from Austin's official website.
