Following a shooting incident on Thrasher Lane, the Austin Police Department (APD) is avidly conducting a homicide investigation. On early Friday morning, December 13, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Thrasher Lane in response to gunfire reports. Upon their arrival at approximately 3:53 a.m., they discovered Erik Tijerina, a Hispanic male born on February 15, 1979, unresponsive in the front yard of a residence with apparent gunshot wounds. Erik Tijerina was urgently transported to a local hospital where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead on Sunday, December 15, at 2:50 p.m., marking the city's 69th homicide of the year.
The APD's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists have since processed the crime scene and interviewed witnesses. According to official statements, early findings suggest that multiple individuals may have been involved in an exchange of gunfire, incidentally striking Mr. Tijerina while he was outside the premises. The authorities are determined to quickly make any arrest as this sensitive investigation unfolds.
As Austin grapples with rising homicide numbers, the community's role in assisting law enforcement becomes increasingly imperative. APD encourages anyone with relevant information to come forward. Citizens can submit tips by contacting the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. Anonymity is offered through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program which accepts tips via their website at austincrimestoppers.org or by phone at 512-472-8477. Furthermore, a reward of up to $1,000 is on the table for information leading to an arrest in connection with this case.
The APD has not released specifics regarding suspects or motives in this continuous investigation. However, they reiterate their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and to hopefully provide some closure for the family of Erik Tijerina. Inquiries regarding the investigation can be directed to the aforementioned outlets, as the public waits for further updates on this tragic event.
