The Austin Police Department is asking for community assistance in finding a missing senior citizen with dementia. Jaime Tamariz, 81, has been missing since Thursday evening and was last seen around 7 p.m. on the 900 block of East 2nd Street, the City of Austin reported. Concerns about his safety are growing due to his medical condition and communication barriers, as Mr. Tamariz only speaks Spanish.
He is described as a Hispanic male, standing 5'6" and weighing about 140 pounds, with brown eyes and salt-and-pepper hair. According to a statement from the APD, at the time he went missing, he was wearing a dark grey sweatshirt, dark grey sweatpants, and sandals. In the chill of December, wearing only sandals, his level of vulnerability in this situation is quite clear.
The police are urging anyone with information to come forward. "If you see Mr. Tamariz, please call 9-1-1 immediately," the City of Austin emphasized. Additional tips or potential sightings can also be reported to the APD Missing Person's Unit at 512-974-5250.
