In a case that unfolded in the early hours of a November Monday, a man walked into a 7-Eleven on West Ben White Boulevard and made a forceful exit with merchandise, putting an employee in harm's way and shattering the store's serene night.
Described as a white or mixed race male in his 20s or 30s, standing around 5’10”, with a dark beard, the suspect went to the convenience store at 12:30 a.m. Engaging in an age-old dance of theft, he grabbed various items and sought to leave without paying. Austin Police Department reports an employee attempted to thwart the attempt, only to be assaulted by the suspect who then broke the front glass door in his escape.
He was last seen decked in a black hat, green plaid long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans adorned with a chain, black shoes, toted green bags, and a gray and black bag clutched in hand. This man, still at large, is becoming the subject of a growing search and a collective bid by the community and authorities to stand as a barrier to harm and disquiet.
The Austin Police Department has made a direct appeal to anyone who might hold pieces to this jigsaw of justice. A reward of up to $1,000 is on the table for information that could guide to an arrest, and tipsters can remain in the shadows of anonymity.
