In the early hours of December 13, a tragic incident unfolded at the Griffis Apartments in Austin, resulting in the death of a young Hispanic male, Carlos Sotelo. According to a statement released by the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a call at 1:41 a.m. following reports of a shooting at Saint David’s North Austin Medical Center.
The victim, identified as Carlos Sotelo, born on March 22, 2007, had been brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound by a private vehicle. Investigations suggest that before the violent event that abruptly ended his life, Sotelo and others were besieged by multiple armed suspects attempting to rob them. The driver, in a desperate bid to safeguard the occupants, tried to recklessly drive away, prompting the assailants to open fire and thereby striking Sotelo.
The subsequent events unfolded with Sotelo's demise being pronounced on the following day, December 14, at 10:28 a.m., casting a bleak shadow over the community as the city grapples with its 68th homicide of the year. Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists have taken to meticulously combing through the evidence and garnering accounts from those who bore witness to the crime.
Authorities are reaching out to the public for any leads that may bring the perpetrators to justice. Information can be anonymously reported through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program or by calling 512-472-8477 directly. There is a possibility of a $1,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest. The Austin Police Department has made a significant plea for public assistance, urging anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward immediately and help piece together the circumstances that led to truly understand the unnecessary taking of a young life.
