
A 17-year-old boy's life came to a tragic end in the wake of an attempted robbery at a north Austin apartment complex last week, leaving authorities seeking answers and assistance from the public. Carlos Sotelo was identified as the victim in the incident that took place in the early hours of Friday, December 13. He succumbed to his injuries the following day at Saint David's North Austin Medical Center after being shot in the parking garage of the Griffis at The Domain apartments.
According to CBS Austin, the Austin Police Department reported that the shooting occurred at around 1:41 a.m. when multiple suspects approached an vehicle where Sotelo and others were seated, attempting to rob them at gunpoint. As the driver tried to flee the perpetrators, shots were fired, with one striking Sotelo.
A witness to the event rushed the wounded teen to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:28 a.m. on Saturday, as per the police. The incident is being treated as Austin's 68th homicide of 2024, further contributing to a year marked by too many lives lost to senseless violence.
The Austin Police Department is actively pursuing leads and has called on the community to provide any information that could help apprehend those responsible.
