Authorities in Collin County are investigating a brazen theft at a Dillard's store in Fairview on Sunday, around 11 a.m. According to the details disclosed by WFAA, the suspects, three women, and one man, reportedly entered the store and immediately headed to the handbag section. There, they severed the security cables attached to the merchandise.
The suspects were in the act of the robbery. A suspect from the group issued a threat to shoot a store employee, an action that casts a sharp shadow over the perceived safety of retail spaces. This occurred after a store worker inquired if the group needed assistance, as reported by NBC 5. The threat effectively dissuaded the employee from interrupting their crime.
As Fairview police narrated, the group made off with a hefty collection of handbags. They fled the scene in a white Honda Accord that might have been decked with Louisiana paper plates. They left via the same route they entered, disappearing down Stacy Road.
"It’s putting people on notice, ‘Hey, listen, don't get involved with this. We’re going to take what we want and unless you want to get hurt, don't stand in our way,’" Bill Marcisz, president of Strategic Security Management Consulting, explained the suspects' tactic, as detailed in NBC 5. The authorities believe these individuals to have participated in similar offenses across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Investigative efforts have intensified, with several law enforcement agencies collaborating to identify and apprehend the culprits of this chain of thefts and robberies. The Fairview Police Department, while reticent with details concerning ongoing investigations, assures that they are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. Thus far, Dillard's has not responded to the incident when contacted.
