Each holiday season, Bethlehem, Georgia, attracts crowds to its post office for a special stamp. With a population of just over 700, the town has been offering a unique postmark that reads "Christmas Greetings from Bethlehem," as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
According to the same report, the town's postmark tradition is partly thanks to an old Flier canceler, over 100 years old. Postmaster Ada Czajkowski told the Gainesville Times in 2008, "There are old ones at the plant in Atlanta that we get parts for this one. When they were phased out, an office gave this one to Bethlehem, and we’ve been using it the past 40 years at Christmastime."
The holiday tradition, which began in 1967, has made Bethlehem a seasonal hub for those looking to add a unique touch to their Christmas mail. According to a WSB Radio report, Postmaster Calvin Mansfield said the postmark leads to a significant increase in customers each December, showing that the appeal of Bethlehem's holiday postmark extends beyond its local area.
