A tragic incident unfolded in Citrus Heights as a bicyclist succumbed to injuries after a collision with a vehicle on Monday night. ABC 10 reported the collision occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Van Maren Road near Mercedes Avenue, according to Citrus Heights Police Department which responded to the distress calls.

First responders found the injured cyclist on the road, prompt upon their arrival they realized the gravity of the situation and quickly transported the individual to the hospital where, despite medical efforts, the individual passed away from the injuries sustained in the crash, according to statements by the local authorities to CBS News Sacramento. Officers at the scene have confirmed that the driver involved in the incident remained onsite and appeared to cooperate with the investigation, further details on the condition of the driver have not been officially disclosed though the suspicion of drugs or alcohol contributing to the crash lingers in the air.
