Early this morning, a collision fell over the intersection of Guerneville Road and Herbert Street between a van and a bicycle. According to a social media post by the Santa Rosa Police Department, the crash occurred just east of the railroad tracks at approximately 7:35 a.m.
The crash involved a blue Chevy Astro Van and a bicyclist on Guerneville Rd, where first responders found the cyclist downed in the roadway. The wounded bicyclist was quickly transported to the hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. While vehicle speed and driver impairment do not appear to be factors, as reported by Santa Rosa Police, the question remains as to why the bicyclist entered the oncoming westbound traffic.
The identities of both the driver and the bicyclist have been withheld at this juncture. Santa Rosa Police are urging anyone with information to step forward. Officer John Fisher can be contacted at 707-543-3600 ext. 8550.
