On Friday night, a road rage incident escalated into gunfire in Boston's South End, leading to the arrest of 40-year-old Jair Furtado. According to the Boston Police Department, officers responded to a shots-fired call around 10:37 p.m. near 145 East Berkeley Street. A confrontation between two motorists had apparently escalated into violence, with Furtado allegedly discharging a firearm.

Authorities arrived on the scene to find both involved vehicles stationed at the junction of Harrison Avenue and East Berkeley Street. Furtado, behind the wheel of his car, was swiftly handcuffed, and the officers reported a visible firearm inside his vehicle. Investigations at the scene confirmed the presence of a Springfield Hellcat, a handgun with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine. In addition, a box of ammunition and holster were recovered from Furtado’s possession.

The chain of events leading to Furtado’s arrest were traced back to an initial road rage altercation at Albany Street and East Berkeley Street. An argument had reportedly spiraled into Furtado firing a shot at the other individual's car, according to police reports. The Boston Police Department has not disclosed if there were any injuries as a result of the incident.

Furtado now faces charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling. He is slated for arraignment at the Boston Municipal Court.
