Getting around Boulder's Broadway corridor is poised for a significant overhaul aimed at enhancing public transit efficiency and traveler safety. As reported by the City of Boulder, the city invites residents to engage with its Broadway Transit Improvements Project through a virtual open house, running until the end of January.
The focus of this transport initiative is on Broadway/CO 93 between Regent Drive and Table Mesa Drive, a stretch thronged daily by more than 12,000 bus commuters the project targets cutting down on prevalent peak-time traffic congestion which often sees buses getting snarled up, especially at the Table Mesa Drive intersection, the transit planning process includes the addition of short dedicated bus lanes designed to let public transport bypass the knot of traffic at critical points, including Broadway and Regent Drive, and Broadway and Table Mesa Drive, and while the buses get some transit relief, the city pledges there will be no alterations to the number of current vehicle lanes.
With the ultimate aim to spring into final design mode by 2025 and launch construction that summer, The City of Boulder asserts the project will deliver a suite of safety and accessibility upgrades. Alongside this immediate work, the project will also look at potentially converting the outer vehicle lanes into bus lanes within the area of the project by scrutinizing the traffic dynamics and the benefit to transit time savings, dependent on the feasibility study outcomes and the availability of the necessary funds.
