The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced a series of temporary full road closures in the coming weeks to facilitate bridge demolition work associated with the I-25 North Express Lanes Project, Mead to Berthoud initiative. According to CDOT, Valley Road, located south of the Little Thompson River, will be entirely inaccessible from Monday, Jan. 6, at 7 a.m. until Friday, Jan. 10, at 5 p.m.
These closures, aimed at enhancing safety for both travelers and construction crews, are expected to also mitigate the extent of traffic delays typically induced by such intricate projects, the rationale stems from a strategy that prioritizes condensed episodes of intense work over prolonged, staggered interventions this strategy, while inconvenient, is regarded as ultimately more efficient.
A map detailing the closure of Valley Road under I-25 has been made available to the public, providing a visual reference for commuters to understand the affected area. Successive closures are also planned for Weld County Road 32 under I-25, scheduled from Monday, Jan. 13, at 7 a.m. to Friday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m. as crews set to demolish the bridge that currently spans over this roadway.
Anticipating the resulting disruptions to daily traffic flows, a set of detour routes have been recommended, "Eastbound WCR 32 traffic will take WCR 7 north to WCR 34 at Mead, turn east to the Eastern I-25 Frontage Road and turn south to WCR 32," as per CDOT, further advising that "Westbound WCR 32 traffic will take the Eastern I-25 Frontage Road north to WCR 34 at Mead, turn west to WCR 7 and turn south to WCR 32," ways in which local drivers, can more easily navigate around the construction zones despite the inconvenience caused by the closures.
These infrastructural adjustments are part of the broader I-25 North Express Lanes Project which encompasses the reconstruction and expansion of bridges to improve the overall traffic situation and road safety in the stretch between Mead and Berthoud along I-25.
