An encounter on a Buena Park freeway resulted in police fatally shooting a man on Tuesday afternoon, with the incident stirring questions and an ongoing investigation by local and state authorities. According to CBS News Los Angeles, Buena Park Police officers were called around 1 p.m. to assist California Highway Patrol with a report of a man, allegedly armed, walking along the I-5 Freeway near Artesia Boulevard.
The officers found the man on Artesia Boulevard, where the confrontation happened the man was subsequently shot, though the full sequence of events leading up to the incident has yet to be disclosed, the incident resulting in the man sustaining injuries. He was later pronounced dead at UCI Hospital. As reported by KTLA, the California Department of Justice, alongside the Buena Park Police Department, is conducting the inquiry into the shooting, promising an independent review by DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division once the investigation concludes.
The suspect's name is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified. "Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information on the case is encouraged to contact Buena Park Police at 714-562-3978 and ask to speak with Detective Lowe," as stated by KTLA.
