In a bold act of violation, a man was charged after allegedly breaking into a police officer's home in Lawrence County and subsequently spitting on a state trooper. The incident unfolded last night, just past 10:30 p.m., in the quiet confines of a neighborhood on Fifth Street in Bessemer Borough, as reported by WTAE.
State police, who were called to the scene, were met with the unique circumstance of the home's resident – a police officer himself – struggling to apprehend the uninvited guest. According to WPXI, the intruder, identified as 33-year-old Evan Degaton of Butler, was actively resisting arrest.
After the altercation, authorities detained Degaton and brought him to the police station. In this transfer, Degaton reportedly spat on one of the state troopers. The egregious act added a charge of aggravated assault to Degaton's list of offenses, which already included simple assault, burglary, criminal trespass, and harassment.
While information on the motive behind Degaton's entry into the officer's home remains undisclosed, the consequences of his actions are clear and substantial.
