In an effort to prevent the trafficking of firearms across the border, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Hidalgo International Bridge seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. During a routine outbound examination of a commercial bus, bound for Mexico, they intercepted 26 firearms and 43 gun magazines.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez lauded the vigilant efforts of his CBP officers. "Our CBP officers continue to maintain strict vigilance in both the inbound and outbound environments. Their inspections experience, attention to detail and technology all contributed to this significant outbound weapons seizure," Rodriguez said in a statement quoted by CBP's local media release.

The interception took place last Friday, highlighting the diligence of the CBP team. Using non-intrusive inspection technology and assistance from a canine unit, officers chose the vehicle for a detailed search, which resulted in the discovery.

The weapons, magazines, and commercial bus were all seized by CBP OFO. Following the confiscation, Homeland Security Investigations special agents have launched a criminal investigation to trace the origins and intended destination of these illegal items.
