U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo and Pharr International Bridges intercepted over $3 million in mixed narcotics over a 48-hour period, marking two separate and substantial drug seizures in the ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking, according to an official press release by the CBP.

The first interception occurred at the Hidalgo International Bridge last Saturday when officers inspected a grey Chevrolet SUV entering from Mexico, using both non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment and a physical search to uncover 13 packages containing 15.60 pounds of alleged heroin and 9.12 pounds of alleged cocaine, valued at approximately $299,300 and $121,800 respectively.

Following the previous day's seizure, CBP officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility discovered 196.21 pounds of suspected cocaine hidden in a tractor-trailer coming from Mexico on Sunday. The drugs were concealed within a shipment of peppers. The estimated value of the seizure is $2,619,800, according to Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. He commended his team's ongoing efforts, emphasizing their commitment to combating drug trafficking, "Drug trafficking organizations don’t take holiday weekends off, and neither do we," as reported in the press release.

These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts by drug trafficking organizations to smuggle narcotics into the United States, as well as the continuous actions by CBP to counter these attempts. Following the seizures, the narcotics and vehicles were confiscated, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents have launched criminal investigations.
