Today, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is slated to deliver a slew of safety recommendations aimed at those ready to herald in the New Year. In a midday press conference, officers will bestow upon the community tips to ensure a jubilant yet secure New Year's Eve celebration. The briefing comes in the wake of incidents that left Queen City shaken, with a particular focus on averting repeats of past New Year's misfortunes. This announcement was confirmed through a notification from WBTV.

Reflecting on the previous year, Queen City News recalls an unfortunate event: five people were harmed during New Year's Eve celebrations at Romare Bearden Park due to an all too sudden outbreak of violence, that engulfed a teenager commanding a firearm, subsequently arrested. Having settled his involvement in the ordeal, Daevion Crawford pleaded guilty last week. With the aftereffects of recent celebrations still lingering, CMPD's revisited safety strategies are not just routine but a response to community concerns.

Strides have been made to bolster safety, with a shift in venue being one of the most notable alterations for the upcoming New Year's Eve shindig. No longer sprawling across Levine Avenue of the Arts, this year's festivities will unfold within Truist Field's more controlled environment. "Organizers said the move has been in the works for a while and it’s not because of past violence tied to the event," WSOC-TV reported.

In a further attempt to reassure the public, a checkpoint system has been introduced: All those attending the crown lighting at Truist Field will be subjected to a thorough security screening. This comes after a July 4th incident, akin to last December's shooting, had CMPD arresting 47 individuals around Romare Bearden Park, among them 17 teenagers.
