The Chatham Community Library is opening its doors this festive season to host a unique event that addresses the solemn subject of grief during a time usually associated with joy. The gathering titled "Death and Cupcakes: Sharing Holiday Grief" is slated for Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon, designed as a supportive space for those who are navigating the waters of loss amidst the holiday cheer.
According to a recent announcement by the Chatham County website, the program welcomes anyone dealing with the absence of a loved one. Stated no registration is required, making it easy for anyone to join. In the library's Holmes Family Meeting Room, participants will have a chance to share their experiences or simply listen to others going through similar struggles.
Cathy Brooksie Edwards, director of heart2heart North Carolina, will facilitate the program. Edwards is known for establishing candid conversations on topics surrounding death and bereavement that society often sweeps under the rug. Live music, which can be a balm to the troubled soul, will be provided by Amy Durso, adding a soothing backdrop to the event.
