To kindle a passion for the environment in the hearts of the youth, the Chatham Soil & Water Conservation District is launching its annual Conservation Poster and Essay Contests. Geared toward students in a range of educational settings, the contests underscore the importance of wetlands to the planet's health. Under the banner, "Wetlands are Wonderful," organizers are prompting participants to explore the multifaceted influence of these ecosystems. The students will portray, through art and writing, how wetlands serve as habitats for wildlife, and the role they play in ensuring clean water.
This educational initiative is split into two contests: one for visuals, open to students in grades 3 through 5, and an essay contest available to those in grades 6 up to 12. Despite being judged by grade level. The competition for high schoolers from grades 9-12 will be collective. As per the rules, every submission is due by February 24, 2025, allowing ample time for thoughtful expressions of conservation ideas.
