A Massachusetts woman is currently hospitalized with serious head injuries following a snowmobile crash in Bartlett, New Hampshire. The accident occurred on Monday afternoon when Jiamin Wei, 40, of Chestnut Hill, was unable to properly negotiate a downhill left-hand turn on the Lower Haystack Trail off Bear Notch Road. According to a report by NBC Boston, Wei drove off the right side of the trail and collided with a tree. Her 10-year-old son, a passenger on the snowmobile at the time, did not sustain injuries in the incident.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department was alerted to the accident shortly after 3:00 p.m. Wei and her son was part of a tour group, and their guide was able to quickly summon assistance. The crash location was immediately provided to the rescuers, enabling them to reach Wei quickly. As stated by NBC Boston, responders included members from the Bartlett/Jackson Ambulance Service, Bartlett Fire Department, and Bartlett Police Department, further assisted by a Fish and Game conservation officer.
While Wei's injuries were serious, they were reported to be stable at the time of the rescue. WMUR documented that the 10-year-old was safely driven from the scene by snowmobile, while his mother was placed in a rescue sled and transported approximately two miles back to the trailhead. There, she was transferred to an ambulance.
She was taken to the Memorial Hospital in North Conway for treatment following the crash. Both sources, NBC Boston and WMUR, have not yet provided an update on her current condition. The community hopes for her to quickly recover from the traumatic incident.
