Heads up, Clarksville commuters and courthouse regulars: a major downtown parking facility is hitting the pause button for a makeover. Starting January 6, 2025, the Cumberland Plaza Parking Garage will be off-limits to the public — as per an announcement from the City of Clarksville, which outlines a six-month closure to carry out a series of repairs and updates. The Municipal Properties Department detailed the scope of the project, noting enhancements are in store including new lighting, re-striping of decks, storm drainage work, and structural concrete and masonry fortifications.
Downtown Clarksville construction will not disrupt key parking options. Pedestrians can still reach the courthouse from the First Street Parking Garage using a temporary route. Handicap parking on Second Street, directly across from the Montgomery County Courthouse, will remain accessible throughout the repairs, according to the City of Clarksville.
Financial transactions will remain seamless during the downtown Clarksville construction. The Clarksville Parking Commission's pay machine on Second Street will stay fully operational, ensuring convenience for residents and workers as they go about their daily routines.
City officials ask for the public's patience while construction takes place, emphasizing the end goal of guaranteeing "a structurally sound and safe Cumberland Plaza Parking Garage, well into the future," as stated by the City of Clarksville. These upgrades reflect Clarksville's commitment to sustaining a vibrant and functional urban core. Structural and civic integrity remain at the heart of these essential renewal and repair efforts.
