A Florida woman found herself on the wrong side of the law following an altercation over condiments at a Raising Cane's restaurant in Clearwater. McKenzie Keeling, 31, demanded extra sauce after not receiving it in her original mobile order, an incident that quickly escalated leading to her arrest on charges of strong-arm robbery, as Local 10 reported.
Keeling, upon discovering the missing eight packs of Raising Cane's sauce, returned to the establishment only to eventually become both verbally and physically aggressive. In her demand for additional sauce as compensation for her time and fuel, Keeling was denied by the manager which spurred her to allegedly strike the manager in the thigh and attempt to forcefully snatch the manager's employee badge and keys. This was outlined in the arrest affidavit and was corroborated by other workers and captured on surveillance video, according to FOX 13 News.
The manager, identified by Latin Times as Tatyana Herbert, was reportedly in fear during the altercation. Authorities were quick to respond, and Keeling was subsequently arrested and booked into the Pinellas County jail. After posting a $2,500 bail, Keeling has since been released and entered a not-guilty plea through her attorney.
Raising Cane's, a chain known for its chicken fingers and the sauce in question, charges $0.39 for an additional 1.5-ounce container of sauce. The confrontation took place at a branch located approximately 10 miles from Keeling's residence—a $1.2 million waterfront home her parents are said to have bought in 2020. The Clearwater incident is a jarring reminder that even the mundane task of picking up a fast-food order can quickly spiral into an unforeseen complication, as stated by Local 10 and echoed in police reports.
