Bartek, badge number 18, joined the force on August 21, 2019, and was a proud member of the 145th Police Academy Class. According to a social media post by the Cleveland Division of Police, Bartek described joining the police as his "dream job."
In the Facebook post from the Division, it's recounted that on December 31, 2021, Officer Bartek faced a life-threatening scenario. While in the parking lot of the Cross Creek Gardens apartments located at 4298 Rocky River Drive, he encountered a female attempting to carjack him. Bartek responded by trying to disarm his assailant but ended up being shot twice, sustaining critical injuries in the altercation. The emergency teams rushed him to Fairview Hospital, where, despite their efforts, he passed away.
The post continues, detailing the aftermath of the incident on that fateful day. The suspect implicated in the shooting managed to flee the scene initially but was eventually apprehended and faced charges of aggravated murder. These somber memories and the ultimate sacrifice made by Officer Bartek are etched into the department's collective conscience.
Three years later, the Cleveland Division of Police continues to pay tribute to Bartek’s service and dedication. "Our memories continue to include Officer Bartek," states the post, a simple yet impactful remembrance signaling an officer's legacy that endures beyond their time. The photo accompanying the post is credited to Sgt. Thomas Ross features the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C., symbolizing the honor bestowed upon fallen officers nationwide. Cleveland City Hall and other official entities echoed these sentiments, reinforcing the community's reverence for its guardians.
