Police shot a 14-year-old boy from Cleveland during an incident last week. It has now come to light that he had been on the run for a month after severing his ankle monitor. The Cleveland Police Department, during an investigation into approximately 30 car break-ins, engaged with the teenager, who was claimed to have been asleep in a stolen car when found. According to a report by Cleveland19, the teen had a history of offenses such as receiving stolen property and possession of firearms.
The situation escalated after the youth was purportedly startled awake by the officers and proceeded to crash into a police car rapidly and then aggressively drive toward the officers. This led to one officer discharging their weapon, striking the teen in the shoulder. Reports from the scene and subsequent radio traffic indicate a chaotic moment, with officers calling in shots fired and requesting EMS for a "14 year old male, gunshot wound to the right shoulder," as per audio uncovered by FOX8.
In a statement obtained by Cleveland.com, authorities emphasized that the teen had previously been charged and placed under house arrest, from which he had escaped by removing his court-mandated tracking device. The juvenile court record now includes additional charges against him, including seven counts of felonious assault, two counts of receiving stolen property, and one count of handling firearms in a motor vehicle. Moreover, a firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle in question, reinforcing the serious nature of the altercation.
Anna Maria Cora, who once lived next door to the teenager, conveyed to Cleveland19 her disbelief at the drastic turn of events. "I just couldn't believe it," she said, recounting her astonishment over the teen's actions and their potential consequences. The officer involved in the shooting has since been placed on administrative leave while the department's Use-Of-Force Investigation Team scrutinizes the shooting.
