Quentez Thrasher, a 22-year-old Columbus resident, was arrested on Tuesday after police identified him as the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of his stepfather, Sonny Chambers. The Columbus Police Department, having been dispatched to the scene of the crime earlier this month, has since charged Thrasher with murder related to family violence and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Thrasher's preliminary hearing is set this morning, according to an official update from the Columbus Police Department.
The initial call to authorities happened on December 5, when police were called to a residence on the 7300 block of Sorrel Court at 1:18 a.m. Found deceased at the scene with gunshot wounds, Chambers could not be revived by EMS, who responded along with Deputy Coroners Mary Eugene and Elizabeth Allison, pronouncing him dead at 1:55 a.m. Responding to the incident with urgency, the Violent Crimes Unit decided to take charge of the investigation, establishing enough probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for Thrasher. Despite fleeing the scene and with information critical to his whereabouts sought by authorities, Thrasher was eventually apprehended.
