Concord residents should take note of the upcoming holiday closures and changes to city services as Christmas and New Year festivities are upon us. According to an announcement on the City of Concord's official website, government offices will be closed from next Tuesday to Thursday for Christmas, and on January 1st, 2025, for New Year's Day. During these times, several city services will operate on modified schedules.
For the Solid Waste Services, there'll be a one-day delay in garbage, recycling, and bulky waste collection on Wednesday and Thursday. What's more, to fully accommodate the festive season's aftermath, from next Thursday through January 3rd, residents can place extra bags and flattened cardboard outside of their trash carts. It's important to keep these extra items at least two feet away from carts or any other objects to ensure a safe pickup. Plus, citizens looking to dispose of their live Christmas trees can do so by placing them curbside on regular yard waste collection days, sans the decorations and stands, of course.
Meanwhile, for those relying on public transportation, Rider Transit will be taking a break on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with no buses to be running on these dates. Those planning to visit local parks or recreation centers over the holidays should also be aware of closures. All activity centers and Lake Fisher are set to shut their doors on Wednesday. However, there's a bit of good news for fitness enthusiasts or families seeking some leisurely time as certain recreation centers will be open with holiday hours on Tuesday, Thursday, and on New Year's Day. For fishermen and outdoor lovers, it's worth noting that Lake Fisher will only be open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, before closing for Christmas and New Year's Day.
For those looking to engage with the arts over the holiday season, the ClearWater Arts Center & Studios will also take a brief hiatus, closing its doors from Tuesday through Thursday and on January 1st. Concordians planning to visit any of these facilities should be sure to review the schedules ahead of time to avoid showing up to a closed door. With the cityscape quiet for a few days, it's the perfect occasion to gather safely with family and friends, reflecting on the year past and ringing in the new. However, make sure to not forget about these schedule alterations to ensure the holiday cheer is not dampened by unexpected inconveniences.
