Battle Creek authorities are investigating a severe accident that occurred earlier this week on Capital Avenue SW. A pedestrian, identified as a 19-year-old male, was critically injured on Tuesday evening. Reports from witnesses at the scene recount the young man wearing dark clothing, striding into the roadway near E. Langley Road when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle. The collision resulted in serious injuries that warranted immediate medical attention, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.
The driver involved, a 79-year-old woman, remained at the scene. She was the one who alerted authorities, calling for emergency services to assist the injured pedestrian. The response team, which included members from the Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance, promptly arrived and facilitated the victim's transport to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
An accident reconstructionist from the Battle Creek Police Department was dispatched to the location to unravel the precise dynamics of the incident. In the aftermath, the investigation thus far has indicated that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, providing a partial but significant glimpse into the circumstances surrounding the event. The accident has heightened community awareness about pedestrian safety, particularly in dimly lit areas or during evening hours when visibility is compromised.
