Residents of Cudahy may just have to keep their earplugs handy this week as ATI-Cudahy has announced early starts for its operations on two consecutive days, which will see some heavy industrial noise before many have had their first sip of coffee. According to the City of Cudahy announcement, the metal-working company will begin its activities at approximately 5:00 am on Wednesday, December 11, and even earlier at 4:00 am on Thursday, December 12.
The company has stated that the necessary equipment to be in use includes the Large Counterblow Hammer #85 on Wednesday and the Small Drop Hammer #64 on Thursday; these machines come with a notable acoustic presence that might shake residents from their slumber. As part of a partnership with the city, ATI-Cudahy is keeping the public informed in advance of these operational changes in the spirit of transparency and out of respect for the local community, these early starts are not part of the regular routine, but an exception that warrants a heads-up to the locals, as reported by the City of Cudahy.
To keep the residents apprised of such updates, the City of Cudahy will be utilizing its official website and Facebook page to relay this information every time ATI-Cudahy anticipates a disruption outside its normal working hours; this initiative is looked at as a step toward fostering a more informed community, where residents aren’t caught off guard by the pre-dawn industrial symphony.
While the city and ATI-Cudahy endeavor to maintain a dialogue between industry and community, some residents might question the frequency and necessity of these early operations, and how they might effect, among other things, sleep patterns, local wildlife, and the tranquillity of the morning hours. Nevertheless, concerned citizens are encouraged to visit the City of Cudahy website for more detailed information on future operations and, follow these updates on the City’s official Facebook page to stay informed.
