After nearly two decades of investigative persistence, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has made an arrest in connection with a homicide case dating back to 2005. The case revolved around the death of 23-year-old Makia Mosby, whose life was violently taken on Thanksgiving Day in what seemed like an inextricable mystery shrouded by the intervening years, as per MPD.
The circumstances were grim: Ms. Mosby was found in her apartment on Valley Avenue in southeast D.C., and succumbed to burn injuries, and, multiple gunshot wounds. The responders, consisting of Seventh District officers and DC Fire and EMS, pronounced her dead at the scene. The subsequent examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner unequivocally ruled her death a homicide, as detailed by MPD.
MPD's Major Case Squad doggedly pursued leads over the years, painstaking efforts that culminated in a DC Superior Court Indictment. Yesterday, Michael Wells, now 53, also of Southeast, D.C., was arrested by the United States Marshal Service on the strength of a DC Superior Court Bench Warrant. Following his arrest, Wells was transported to the Homicide Branch where he was formally charged with First Degree Murder.
