Last Saturday morning at Fair Park, the true spirit of the holiday season was on full display as 25,000 Dallas-area kids and families in need were invited to choose new toys, bicycles, clothes, and coats. This massive giveaway was a part of the 26th annual Christmas in the Park event, organized by the S.M. Wright Foundation. According to CBS News, the foundation holds this event every year to assist Dallas County residents, as approximately 14% of them struggle to meet their basic needs.

During Christmas in the Park, held at Fair Park's Automobile Building, families were greeted by a veritable winter wonderland. "We really need the help, and they have many great toys. My babies, they got to pick all of their things," LaToya Jones, a mother of five, told CBS News. In addition to the joy of toys, the S.M. Wright Foundation also provided essential household items, including 2,000 coats and 2,000 pairs of shoes, as well as a warm meal to each attending family. Volunteers even distributed canned goods, turkeys, hams, and 5,000 hot boxed meals to bring festivities and comfort to those in need.

The foundation's mission, as reported by CW33, stretches beyond just holiday relief, focusing on economic empowerment and support in areas including education, health, and social services. Its impact during the holiday season, however, is particularly visible, with children's eyes lighting up as they handpicked their cherished items from the trove of 13,000 available.

Anna Franklin, the executive director of Royal International Miss Texas, highlighted the importance of giving back. "It's so important to us to spend our resources and our group and our time off to give back to the community. We've been blessed to have the things that we do, so with our titles and with our organization, we have the opportunity to give back," Franklin stated in an interview reported by CBS News. Updates on donations and how the public can continue to support these initiatives for the next year's gathering, can be found on the foundation's website, with monetary contributions and family registration details available for viewing.
