In a tragic turn of events along Interstate 4, a 23-year-old woman from Davenport lost her life while searching for her fallen cell phone. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that on Friday night, the victim had parked her Dodge pickup truck on the shoulder near State Road 39 to retrieve her phone. ABC Action News reported that after she found her device around 8:45 p.m., she inadvertently stepped into the path of an oncoming Hyundai Elantra driven by a woman from Brandon.

Despite the roadside hazard, the 34-year-old driver of the Elantra was unable to avoid the collision. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the authorities, as confirmed by multiple reports. Meanwhile, the driver involved in the heart-wrenching incident remained unharmed and no charges have been filed against her, noted WTSP. This section of I-4, also designated as SR-400, is known for its heavy traffic, which adds layers of complexity and risk to any pedestrian activity.

As the investigation continues, the exact circumstances that led to the phone falling out of the vehicle and the subsequent decisions that culminated in the tragedy are still being pieced together. 

While no further information has been released about identities of the individuals involved, the FHP's ongoing inquiry into the accident aims to shed more light on the matter. According to a statement obtained by FOX 13 News, "The victim died at the scene and the other driver was uninjured."
