Early this morning, an intense fire ripped through the outdoor dining area of the Bar Bedford restaurant, located at the Moxy Brooklyn Williamsburg hotel, causing alarm in the neighborhood and leading to dozens of evacuations. The flames erupted around 2:15 a.m., setting the tent covering the space ablaze and throwing up a large column of smoke visible from surrounding residences, as ABC7 New York reported.
According to News 12 Long Island, firefighters arrived at the scene to confront fire that had originated on the hotel's first floor; they fought through the smoke to control the blaze which was extinguished in a little over an hour, their efforts making it possible for guests and staff to re-enter the building.
While the surrounding area was clouded with smoke, neighbors self-evacuated as a precaution the nearby apartment dwellers, awakened by the commotion, quickly found themselves on the street, faced with the early morning emergency. Despite the intensity of the situation, there were no injuries reported as fire officials and local authorities investigated the site to determine the cause of the unexpected fire.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the FDNY alongside fire marshals are sifting through the aftermath to find answers and prevent such incidents in the future, the urgent crackle of radios and the somber assessment of fire-touched relics, but they have yet to release any details about what might have sparked the late-night conflagration.
