A Deerfield Beach family faced a post-Christmas ordeal when a fire destroyed their home, displacing six people. The fire occurred overnight, but fortunately, no one was injured. The American Red Cross provided aid to those affected, according to Local 10. The fire broke out around midnight.
On Christmas night, a shed caught fire near NE 45th Street and Second Terrace in Deerfield Beach. The structure was completely destroyed, but the nearby home was not damaged, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, as reported by WSVN.
Neighbor Robert Thomas shared his experience, saying, "It was scary because we were right next to it... We were trying to get our water hose to water the tree to make sure nothing came to our house or hit our back, and two explosions went off. We had to tell my mom to get back," as stated to Local 10.
The American Red Cross is helping the displaced families with financial aid, health services, and mental health support. Local volunteers are available to assist those recovering from the fire. The Red Cross encourages people to donate through their website.
In a report by Local 10, the Red Cross also stresses the importance of being prepared for emergencies, urging families to protect their homes against fire risks. Residents can find fire prevention resources or support the Red Cross efforts through their official website or the Red Cross Emergency App by texting "APPS" to 90999.
