A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for much of Southern New England, including Boston, in effect until 11 AM this morning. According to the National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA, visibility is down to a quarter mile or less in some areas, making driving hazardous.
Driving with caution is imperative during this time, as the low visibility could significantly impact travel. Despite the fog affecting visibility, the National Weather Service has forecasted light rain likely between 1 pm and 4 pm today with temperatures peaking near 46 degrees. Light winds will take a shift to the southeast by the afternoon. Rain chances will persist tonight with the possibility of patchy fog, with it remaining mostly cloudy and the temperature hovering around 45 degrees.
Tomorrow is expected to bring more substantial rainfall, especially before 4 pm, some of which could be heavy. NBC Boston cites temperatures will climb to the mid-50s ahead of the incoming cold front. The rain, possibly accompanied by an isolated thunderstorm, will precede a brief dry-out slated for New Year's Eve with a mix of sun and clouds expected.
Looking ahead, New Year's festivities will likely greet Boston residents with cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 40s as the clock strikes midnight. The new year will commence on a wet note, with rain anticipated before the evening of January 1, as stated by NBC Boston. The remainder of the week is predicted to see a drop in temperatures, culminating in a mostly sunny Saturday with highs around 34 degrees, creating a chilly yet clear transition into 2025.
