Los Angeles area residents faced a shrouded start to their day with dense fog blanketing swathes of the coastline and moving inland, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard maintained a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 9 AM PST this morning, warning of "visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog."
The advisory, which encompassed areas including the Los Angeles County Beaches, Downtown Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara County Coastal regions, came alongside expectations of a clearing trend later in the day, with forecasts predicting a high near 72 degrees. Despite a projected break in foggy conditions post-morning, motorists were advised to "slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you."
As per the extended forecast, the region will see a repetitive pattern with patchy fog continuing into early next week, particularly after sunset and before the late morning hours. Days are forecasted to clear up gradually with mild temperatures hovering in the high 60s to low 70s.
Towards the end of next week, conditions are expected to shift as a chance of rain enters the forecast on Tuesday, ahead of the Christmas holiday. Though the rain chances appear light, they introduce a brief hiatus in the otherwise consistent pattern of fog that has enveloped the city in these December days.
