In the spirit of National Influenza Vaccination Week, Denton County Public Health (DCPH) is encouraging residents to roll up their sleeves and get the flu shot—if not for themselves, then for the community at large. With flu season in full swing and not peaking until sometime between December and February, the message is clear: the time to get vaccinated is now.
"With the recent national increase in flu activity among children, we want to remind everyone that getting the flu vaccine is the absolute best way to protect yourself and those you love," Juan Rodriguez, Assistant Director of DCPH, stated, as per Denton County. He adds that since the vaccine takes about two weeks to be fully effective, now's the moment to plan—especially with the holiday season on the horizon.
DCPH's three-pronged strategy for combating the flu is straightforward: vaccination first, antiviral medications as a backup, and good old-fashioned hygiene practices. If you're feeling under the weather with symptoms like fever or a persistent cough, don't hesitate to see a doctor and follow their advice—which may include antivirals.
