The holiday season in Denver is getting a boost of cheer and generosity with Denver Human Services (DHS) leading their annual #BeAGiver Holiday Gift Drive. Announced on December 4th, the drive welcomes the local community to partake in bringing holiday joy to families, children, and older adults by either donating gifts or making monetary contributions. As the event runs through December 9, DHS is motivated to top its previous year's achievements which, according to the City and County of Denver, brought nearly 2,300 gifts to 1,234 individuals in 2023.
Having matched 1,246 individuals with community donors last year for gifts directly from their wish lists, this year's drive continues to encourage Denver residents for their invaluable support. “The generosity of Denver residents never ceases to amaze us,” DHS Executive Director Anne-Marie Braga said, as per City and County of Denver. She further expressed her appreciation by adding, “Each year, our #BeAGiver Holiday Gift Drive demonstrates the incredible compassion and commitment of our community to ensure that everyone feels the joy and warmth of the holiday season."
There are multiple ways for individuals to get involved in the gift drive. To participate, community members can drop off unwrapped general gifts at designated DHS locations, appointments, however, can be made for this process. Interested donors can also shop online for items on the DHS’ Amazon Wishlist or YouGiveGoods Wishlist, where items will be shipped directly to DHS facilities.
Monetary donations are another welcomed avenue, allowing DHS to purchase gifts on behalf of donors, tax-deductible contributions. To further contribute to the cause, spreading the word on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads using the hashtag #BeAGiver is encouraged to inspire others to join the initiative.
