Early this morning, a structure fire was reported in Downtown Los Angeles at 506 S San Pedro Street. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, firefighters arrived on the scene at approximately 5:21 AM to find light smoke emerging from a one-story commercial building. The fire, which was confined to one room within a unit, elicited a quick response from the firefighting crew.
The LAFD reported that, with no injuries to tell of, 30 firefighters conducted an offensive attack and eradicated the blaze in 23 minutes. The 9-1-1 call regarding the fire had come in just before 5 AM. The efforts made by the crew ensured that the fire did not extend beyond the original unit, protecting neighboring areas in the building.
Margaret Stewart from the fire department confirmed, "Crews efforts contained the fire to the unit of origin, preventing extension to the attic or the attached units." With effective coordination and quick action, the LAFD managed to avert what could have been extensive damage to the surrounding property.
Investigations into the cause of the fire remain ongoing.
