Flames engulfed homes in Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington neighborhood Friday morning, leading to a dramatic rooftop rescue. According to WPXI, a man stranded on the roof as the fire spread was saved by neighbors using a ladder. The blaze, which commenced in the 100 block of Merrimac Street around 8:51 a.m., quickly leaped to an adjacent building, ultimately impacting three homes.

First responders and neighbors worked hand-in-hand in the rescue efforts. A Pittsburgh police sergeant rushed into the first home ablaze to assist an occupant to safety. Overall, six individuals from the engulfed buildings escaped the peril unscathed. Dispatchers confirmed the incident, and as the fire crews continue their operations on the scene, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, a doorbell camera captured a separate escape as a desperate resident fled through a second-story window engulfed by smoke and flames. The footage, shared with WTAE by local Julia Sonson, showed the man's narrow escape from the intense fire between two buildings. In addition to the rooftop rescue, this video has become a sobering testament to the intensity and speed of the urban fire.
