In an emotionally charged scene, the aftermath of the shooting was marred by grief as the victim's loved ones mourned. According to a WXYZ, the slain young man was known affectionately as 'Junior,' the youngest of five siblings. His mother, amidst her shattered world, implored, “It wasn’t worth it. You took something from me, you took my life from me. So I ask you all if you all could just turn yourself in.” Further reports are that multiple residents were present in the house when the shooting occurred, and the victim's family suspects that this violence may be linked to a prior incident involving their home.
