A car accident near Humble on Wednesday morning killed the driver and severely injured the passenger. The vehicle hit a utility pole, causing a fire and power outage. The crash occurred at the intersection of the Sam Houston Tollway westbound feeder road and Wilson Road, leading to road closures for the investigation.
The male driver died at the scene, and the female passenger was hospitalized with severe burns covering 70% of her body. Firefighters couldn’t extinguish the fire immediately due to nearby power lines, and had to wait for the area to be made safe, according to KHOU.
The accident caused a power outage, with CenterPoint crews working to restore power, expecting the process to take several hours. "They would need to fix the transformer, repair the lines, and re-energize them." Authorities are investigating the incident, with Deputy Howard noting that "the roads were wet" despite it not "actively raining at the time." The cause of the fatal crash, including possible factors like speed or alcohol, is still under investigation, as stated by ABC13 and KHOU.
