Get ready to dodge the reindeers and Santas, folks, because the Wild Santa Run is about to hit the streets of Duluth this Saturday. As reported by the City of Duluth, a horde of festive runners will be hoofing it through the city’s thoroughfares, jingling all the way from the 2500 block of West Superior Street. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. and is expected to draw participants decked out in their holiday best.
For those who live or plan to travel in the area, take note that certain streets will be off-limits for parking. There will be no parking on Superior Street, between 27 Avenue West and 19 Avenue West, &ndash, and on Michigan Street from 24 Avenue West to 17 Avenue West. The no-parking rule is effective from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., as highlighted by the city's traffic advisory.
To accommodate the runners, road closures will be the order of the morning. Superior Street will be closed from 24 Avenue West to 27 Avenue West between 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and from 24 Avenue West to 19 Avenue West from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Additionally, Lower Michigan Street will be blocked off from 24 Avenue West up to the convergence with Superior Street, and Michigan Street will be shuttered from 21 Avenue West to 17 Avenue West, all during the same hour-and-a-half window.
Commuters and residents should be prepared for disruptions, but the good news is, normalcy will resume shortly after Santa’s last "ho, ho, ho". Traffic patterns are expected to return to their pre-festiveflow around 12:00 p.m., giving everyone plenty of time to still grab that afternoon coffee or get last-minute holiday errands done. Remember to plan accordingly, patience is a virtue – especially during the holiday season.
