An early morning collision in Wayne, Oklahoma, brought tragedy after a vehicle rolled multiple times, resulting in the death of the driver, authorities reported. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirms that the accident occurred around 1:58 a.m. today, when 65-year-old Ronnie Terry, who was driving southbound on OK-74, veered off the road roughly 500 feet north of 100th Street.
The vehicle, identified as a 2018 Buick Encore, departed the roadway to the right and rolled approximately 3.5 times before coming to a halt on its top. According to FOX 25 News, Terry was pronounced deceased by the Wayne Fire Department after being pinned for about one hour and 15 minutes before being extricated from the wreckage.
In addition to the fatality, there was also a passenger in the vehicle whose life hung in balance, but fortune took a kinder turn. Clayton Powell, a 46-year-old passenger, was treated for injuries sustained during the crash and subsequently released, as reported by authorities. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol indicated that foggy weather conditions and high speeds may have been contributing factors in the accident, as gleaned from both News 9 and the Highway Patrol's statements.
The aftermath reflected the somber reality of a journey ended abruptly. Oklahoma roads had been wet after rain and drizzle moved through the state, which might have contributed to the hazardous conditions. In detailing the collision's cause, KOCO 5 News cited the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's report, which said the possible cause of the collision was driving too fast for the road conditions and the driver being possibly sleepy.
