A 20-year-old Oklahoma City man is facing a first-degree murder charge after investigators say he shot and killed his mother's boyfriend inside a northwest Oklahoma City home following a verbal altercation. Anthony Lewis was identified as the alleged shooter in the May 26 death of 45-year-old Floyd Williams, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Oklahoma City Police Department officers were called to a possible shooting at a home near NW 23rd and Portland late that night, as reported by KOKH. Williams was found dead after being shot in the living room of the home. According to the Oklahoma City Free Press, the shooting happened inside an apartment complex in the 4000 block of NW 23rd Street, between Portland Avenue and Meridian Avenue, and officers responded to reports of a shooting just after 10 p.m.
Witnesses told investigators that Williams and Lewis were armed with guns and got into a verbal altercation before the shooting, per KOKH's report. Police say Williams was dating Lewis's mother. Investigators with the Oklahoma City Police Department determined that Williams engaged in an altercation inside the apartment with another adult male, who fled the scene before officers arrived, the Free Press reported, meaning no one was taken into custody the night of the shooting.
Arrest Followed Investigation
Lewis was later arrested and has since been charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting, according to KOKH. The case concerns the shooting. The allegations contained in the charging documents represent accusations that must still be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
Williams' death marked Oklahoma City's 30th recorded homicide of 2026 and was the sixth fatal violent crime reported in the city during May, the Free Press noted. The city's homicide total was mentioned without a specific figure. National gun-violence memorial databases track victims nationwide.
What Lewis Could Face Under Oklahoma Law
Under Oklahoma statutes 21 O.S. § 701.7 and § 701.9, first-degree murder is defined as an intentional homicide committed with malice aforethought, carrying statutory penalties of life imprisonment, life without parole, or the death penalty, according to the Law Firm of Oklahoma. If convicted, Lewis would also fall under the state's 85% Rule, codified at 21 O.S. § 13.1, which requires individuals convicted of first-degree murder to serve at least 85 percent of their court-imposed sentence before becoming eligible for parole, per Enlow Law.
