The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a special weather statement, warning residents of incoming cold winter conditions expected to hit the region within the next 24 to 48 hours. The cold front, originating from the Four Corners area, is anticipated to bring gusty north winds of up to 30-40 mph across various counties, including Sierra Lakes region, Luna, Dona Ana, and the Tularosa Basin through El Paso County, as stated by the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service, the vigorous winds are expected to create significantly lower apparent temperatures, driving them down to 5 to 15 degrees in the mountains and 15 to 25 degrees across the lowlands, after nightfall. Residents in areas not quite as affected by the strong gusts will face brisk winds nonetheless.
The cold front is set to not only bring in gusty conditions but also plummet temperatures to the lowest the area has seen this season starting Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, forecasters are projecting low temperatures to hover around 15 to 25 degrees in the lowlands and between 10 and 20 degrees in mountainous regions. With the winds dying down on Tuesday, the real feel of the cold is expected to be accentuated by the mere drop in ambient temperatures.
As the system moves on, the cold spell is anticipated to stay its course until a gradual warming trend begins on Thursday, setting the stage for a more comfortable climate over the weekend. The National Weather Service advises the public to prepare for the cold snap; precautions should include the protection of outdoor equipment such as exposed pipes, and making adequate arrangements for pets to withstand the cold weather, looking forward to a sunny, albeit brisk, weekend ahead.
